LCol Ciarroni enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces in 1967 as a trooper in the Royal Canadian Hussars. He advanced to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer and was appointed Regimental Sergeant Major of the Hussars and then RSM of the Area Battle School. He commissioned as an armoured officer in 1981.
LCol Ciarroni has served in operations and many appointments over his forty four years of service, most notably as Commanding Officer of the Royal Canadian Hussars. He was a member of the Directing Staff of the Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff College in Kingston; he has held an appointment as Executive Assistant to the Assistant Deputy Minister for Information Management for the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces. He has been employed in a number of Chief of Staff Positions including Director General Strategic Planning. LCol Ciarroni was inducted as an Officer in the Order of Military Merit in 2007 and spent his last years of service with the Canadian Army’s Directorate of Land Force Development. During that time he also acted as a facilitator for the Canadian Police College on the Senior Police Administration Course.
LCol Ciarroni is a graduate of the Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff College. In May 2011 he retired, and since that time he has worked with the Canadian Armed Forces on Range and Operational Field Safety and with the Canadian Police College teaching Ethics and Critical Thinking. LCol Ciarroni is married to Lynn Harper; between them they have five sons and seven grandchildren.
