Born in Montreal on August 16th 1976, CWO O’Donnell completed his high school studies in June 1993 and completed his firefighting courses in 1996 at l’Institut de Prevention des Incendies du Quebec, in Laval, Quebec. CWO O’Donnell is currently working as a maintenance yard controller, at the Via Rail Maintenance yard in Montreal, Quebec.
CWO O’Donnell joined the Royal Canadian Hussars as an Armoured Crewman in April 1996, and completed his BMQ in August of the same year. He completed his PLQ during the summer of 2003 and his Patrol Commanders course during the summer of 2005. He deployed to Afghanistan in June 2007 as a Patrol Commander, in the Force Protection Platoon of the NSE. He deployed to Vancouver during the Vancouver Olympics in 2010 where he was employed as a Troop Warrant in the JTF-G.
Following his mission in Afghanistan, CWO O’Donnell was awarded the CEFCOM Commendation for Leadership and the Sacrifice medal for injuries sustained in combat. Promoted to MWO in April 2012, he returned to the RCH as the Squadron Sergeant-Major, Command and support Squadron. He is now the RSM of the regiment since December 2016.
An avid football fan, he was involved as a Head Coach and a member of the board of directors of a minor football association in the Montreal area, until November 2015. CWO O’Donnell enjoys travelling the world with his spouse Christine and their two children, Bryanna and Shayne.
