This brigade is lauded for its pioneering role in armoured warfare. One senior British officer called the Canadians \u201cpioneers in the higher organization of machine gun commands,\u201d a development that was largely attributable to Brigadier-General Raymond Brutinel. Brutinel became the General Officer Commanding of the Canadian Machine Gun Corps on 28 October 1916, and he retained the appointment until 18 April 1919.
