REGIMENTAL ACTIVITIES IN CANADA AND OVERSEAS FROM 1938 TO 1943 (Sgt George Murray)
May 24, 1991 – This picture album, recording the various activities of the 17th Duke of York’s Royal Canadian Hussars, the 3rd Canadian Motorcycle Regiment and the 7th Canadian Reconnaissance Regiment from 1938 to 1943 is given as an addition to the regimental archives in memory of Sergeant George T. Murray (D30031) by his loving wife Hilda A. Murray, of Victoria, British Columbia, on the occasion of the 45th anniversary reunion of the Royal Canadian Hussars Association. The album starts by showing cavalry training and other activities before the war, when the unit still had horses. It then shows the unit being called out to protect the Jacques Cartier Bridge. Shortly after, It became a motorcycle regiment then a reconnaissance unit. Then it was sent to train with the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division in Camp Debert, Nova Scotia. From there it was deployed to England where it was issued with armoured vehicles, continued its training, and was stationed near the southern coast to repel a possible German invasion. Finally, the album ends, when in 1943, Sergeant Murray, is posted to Dundurn, Saskatchewan to attend or instruct on reconnaissance training courses.
