On October 20, 2018, Chief Warrant Officer (Retired) Donald Greene was awarded the title of Important Friend of the Regiment for his volunteer service which spanned more than 24 years, as the principal responsible and curator of the Royal Canadian Hussars Museum, as a loyal member of the executive of the Royal Canadian Hussars Association, and as Treasurer of the Montreal Cavalry Institute. He transferred to the regiment as the Regimental Sergeant-Major in 1993, after serving 32 years in the Regular Forces. He assumed responsibility for the museum in 1994 and immediately started improving it. He changed the displays so they focused more on the unit’s history and he refurbished the picture frames, display cases, and the rooms themselves. He convinced association members and others to donate mementos, artifacts, funds, display cases and other things needed by the museum. He made numerous improvements to the displays and he has made himself available to host numerous visits, including one by the new Colonel-in-Chief of the regiment who stayed for 45 minutes rather that the 10 minutes that had been allocated for her visit. Don has provided a valuable service to the Regiment by helping preserve its history in a manner that it can be appreciated by past, current and future generations of hussars, friends of the regiment and members of the public.

Join us to congratulate him.

Lieutenant-colonel Funk, CD
Commanding Officer, Royal Canadian Hussars
