Lieutenant-Colonel (LCol) Malcolm William Stuart Day was born in Montreal, Quebec in 1971 of English immigrant parents. In 1993, LCol Day enrolled in Canadian Armed Forces as Armour Officer Cadet in the King’s Own Calgary Regiment.

In 1994, LCol Day began his training as an Armour Officer in the RESO program and was Commissioned, and in 1995 graduated from the Armour School in Gagetown, NB. From 1995-1996, LCol Day took a 10 month Leave of Absence to participate in a University work exchange in Brno, Czech Republic, where he worked for an electronics firm. Since returning to the Regiment in 1996, across various Regimental tours LCol Day has filled most of the significant positions within the Regiment, including Sabre-Troop Leader, Senior Subaltern, Operations Officer, OC A Squadron, and Deputy Commanding Officer.

In 1999, LCol Day worked as a Liaison Officer on Operation ABACUS, the Y2K preparation plan and in 2000 completed training in PSYOPS at the US Army Special Warfare Centre in Fort Bragg North Carolina October 2000, where he was awarded Top International Student. LCol Day then deployed on Operation PALLADIUM, Rotation 7, where he was the 2IC of the Division PSYOPS cell for Multi-National Division (SW) HQ in Banja Luka, Bosnia.

From 2003-2013, LCol Day served at 41 Canadian Brigade Group (CBG) Headquarters, in the positions of Adjutant, Public Affairs Officer, G3 Operations, G3 and then G5. During this period LCol Day also served as an Assisting Officer to families of the fallen.

 In 2013 LCol Day was selected as the Canadian Army Exchange Officer to the United States Army National Guard (US ARNG), in Arlington, Virginia, where he served as US NORTHERN COMMAND (NORTHCOM) Theatre Action Officer in the ARNG G3 Security Cooperation branch. Upon returning to Canada in 2016, LCol Day was posted to the Army Headquarters and in October 2016, was promoted to his current rank, and continues to serve as the Director Army Reserve 3, section head responsible for providing guidance and advice on Reserve issues to the Chief of Staff Army Operations within the Canadian Army.

Having earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calgary, and Masters of Defence Studies from Royal Military College, LCol Day has also graduated in from the Canadian Army Command and Staff College in Kingston, the Canadian Armed Forces Staff College in Toronto, and in the top 10% from the United Kingdom Joint Services Command and Staff College in Shrivenham.

LCol Day is married to Shohini Sengupta and they have two children: his son, Kiran and his daughter, Mayuri.  LCol Day volunteers as a Scout Leader, plays soccer, hockey and squash enthusiastically but unskillfully, and enjoys the outdoors.
